Creativity in the a.m.
This morning I woke up to the question, ”Mom, how do I get paper mache off me?” Am I still dreaming?! This question was coming from the other side of my locked bedroom door – my husband and I desperately trying to take in a little more sleep than usual on this non-school/non-work Saturday am. I have been known to use the expression, I’m so tired that “I feel like I got run over by a truck”! This morning was an opportune moment to do so….BEFORE the loudspeaker announcement was broadcast from the crack between the bottom of my solid oak door and the floor. But, I could not muster up any “witch-mom” feelings about the incident. For I remembered that John has been working on a paper mache project for the sweetest reason… Tomorrow is his 5 year old sister, Catherine’s, birthday and he decided to make her a pinata to celebrate turning 6. He also made her “Baked Alaska” (with Chocolate Moose Tracks ice cream for the center instead of strawberries which she doesn’t really like), and went shopping with me to get the food for her birthday meal. I don’t have any magic ‘Pixie Dust’ so don’t bother writing me for a free sample or to purchase it as a cure for sibling rivalry. (Now that’s a topic I’ve attempted to learn much about by reading parenting books and the like. But despite my attempts to remember & put into practice what I’ve read, sometimes it’s too hard to think through it in the middle of the actual situation.) The wonderful kindnesses that my kids show for one another remind me that I’m doing a good job after all – even if I can’t remember a single thing the experts said in those books!
