The “Raisin Hand” Strikes again!

For those of you who have visited our home, you know we own a lot of books…Just about a bookshelf in every room. This past weekend, dh and I realized that the kids would have a lot more room to play and study if we got rid of those bookshelves…but NOT the books.

We decided to build one large bookshelf in the living room to house all the books.

So, we spent the past weekend measuring, shopping at Home Depot, drilling, sawing and…here’s the part where I come in…varnishing!

That varnish doesn’t come off easily. Even after I scrubbed and washed my hands about thirty times, there was still some very stubborn varnish stuck on my hands. (I wore gloves for the second coat.)

Every time I went to embrace the kids, sure enough someone would pipe up, “Ewh , Mommy! Yuck ! What’s THAT on your hands?!?” making me feel like an absolute MONSTER/outcast.

Me: “Oh nothing, kiddos! I just felt like covering my hands with mud – since, you know, I love the challenge of thawing the frozen dirt with my bare hands and I have nothing else to do!”

(Older) Kids: “Ha-ha-ha. Yeah, right!” vs. (Younger) Kids response: “You did????”

But Gianna’s comment was the best…I went to wrap my arms around her to give her a hug and she said, “Maaaaammmmy (in a long drawn out manner of speaking)! Get your raisin hands off me!”

Thunderous laughter followed!

Oh the joys of having tons of kids around :) !

The next task is collecting all those books from the various rooms and placing them on the brand spankin’ new bookshelf, and……CATALOGUING them all! Fortunately, I taught John keyboarding last year as part of his fourth grade curriculum, soooooo….I can count on his assistance!
